She was calm on camera, but on the inside Julia Child was a stressed out perfectionist. One of the major problems that Julia Child had to face was that she looked calm on camera, but on the inside she was had major stage fright. She stressed out on the inside while she was on camera, if what she was baking didn’t do what she needed it to or she did something wrong she would panic, the good thing was that it didn’t show on the outside. To fix this problem, she worked with her husband Paul, and her associate producer Ruth Lockwood. Julia spent hours upon hours preparing for her half hour cooking segments on television. After working with Paul and Ruth they came up with some more solutions to go along with working hours to prepare. Julia made detailed notes that outlined every move, and word she would do and say on the screen. Her associate producer Ruth also made cards called idiot cards, that she would hold up behind the camera for Julia to read. They said things like “stop gasping”, “breathe”, and “wipe brow”. Another problem she had to cope with later in her life was in 1994 when her husband Paul died. She was extremely lonely, and sad. This problem she had to solve by herself. To cope with the sadness and loneliness, she immersed herself in her cooking, and writing. She traveled a lot, and then finally settled down in Santa Barbara, California.
