Julia Child was born on August 15, 1912. In 1934 She graduated from Smith College with her bachelors degree in english. From 1939-1945 She joined, and served in the Office of Strategic Service. In 1943 She met Paul Cushing Child. In the same year 1943 her and Paul were assigned to China. Again in the same year 1943 Paul introduced her to cooking. In September of 1946 She and Paul Child got married and moved to Washington D.C. In 1948 Paul was sent to France for work, and she fell in love with the french culture, the food, and everything in France, and she made the ultimate decision that she wanted to learn all she could about French cooking. In that same year 1948 Julia, Simone Beck, and Louisette Bertholle began working on a cookbook together. In 1961 Paul retired. Also in 1961 Julia, Simone Beck, and Louisette Bertholle’s cookbook got published. In 1963 Julia began weekly half hour shows called the French Chef. Following that in 1965 The book she published back in 1961 won a Peabody Award. The following year in 1966 she won an Emmy Award. Two years later in the year 1968 she wrote another cook book called “The French Chef Cookbook” and it was published. In 1980 She became the founder of the American Institute of Wine and Food. In August of 1992 was her 80 birthday party, and 170 paid over 100 dollars to get in. In October of 1993 she became the first woman to be elected to the culinary institute hall of fame. In 1994 her husband Paul died. In the year 2000 She won the Legiond’ honneur which is France’s highest honor. In 2001 she moved to Montecito California and oversaw the opening of a restaurant named after her. In 2002 she gave her kitchen to the smithsonian institution. The next year in 2003 She won U.S. Presidential medal of freedom. And then on August 13, 2004, she died in her home in Santa Barbera California.
